Job Description:

1. Essential Job Functions:
To operate a commercial motor vehicle to transport freight in intra or interstate commerce between terminals and/or relay stations or from home terminal to distant to distant point(s) and returns

2. Duties
A. Inspect vehicle and required parts and accessories to determine safe operating condition prior to departure on trip
B. Check shipping papers to determine nature of load and any special hazards and check load itself and methods of securing it/No regulated hazardous materials laded with the load
C. Operate vehicle in compliance with company rules and all applicable state and federal regulations and in accordance with accepted principles of safe driving
D. Deliver freight to consignees location
E. Load and unload freight as required
F. Collect freight charges as instructed
G. Check engine oils, coolant levels and fuel and re-fuel as required
H. Conduct inspections of the tractor and trailer for defects and safe operating conditions before, during and at the end of each day, and submit a written report on the condition of this
equipment in accordance with DOT regulations
I. Perform other work related duties as required

3. Miscellaneous responsibilities

A. Report all accidents, incidents of equipment damage involving employee or company equipment
B. Maintain trip records required
C. Maintain records required for compliance with state and federal regulations including driver logs, record of fuel purchases, mileage records, etc.
D. Proper use and care of all equipment assigned to him/her for performance of his/her duties
E. Report promptly any delays that will effect pick-up or delivery appointments
F. Promptly report any delays due to breakdowns, weather or traffic conditions or other emergencies, or the event of irregularities relating to a pick-up or delivery
G. Professionally represent the company in communicating with others on all matters
H. Properly load and unload freight to assure safety and eliminate risks of damage to cargo and danger to persons; properly securing load bars, straps and locks

4. Physical requirements

A. 49 CFR 391.41, if applicable
B. Driver must be able to sit for an extended period of time in a tractor
C. Driver must be able to walk, bend, reach, push, pull, stoop, and squat as well as grasp, lift and handle when dealing with section of hose that may exceed 20â in length and measure as
many as 4â in diameter and weigh as much as 75 lbs; this is to ensure safe and proper practice when coupling and when disconnecting hoses
D. Driver must be able to walk, bend, reach, push, pull, stoop, and squat as well as grasp, lift and handle traps which may weigh in access of 80 lbs. when securing a load
E. Hook/unhook trailers from the tractor and cranking a level to raise and lower landing gear
F. Satisfactorily pass a drug test
G. Shift a manual transmission and operate foot pedals

Driver Requirements:

1. Driver must have two (2) years or more of verifiable OTR experience in similar equipment
2. Must have driven similar equipment within the last 3 years
3. Driver must be at least 24 years of age
4. Drivers over the age of 65 must pass the DOT physical and eye exam and provide a copy of the medical certification as well as a current motor vehicle record (MVR) on an annual basis
5. Driver must not have had more than two (2) employers in the past year
6. Must meet all Federal Motor Carrier guidelines
7. No serious or disqualifying traffic violations within the last three (3) years or as noted:
a. No reckless driving
b. No hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident or failure to report an accident
c. No driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs
d. No more than four (4) moving violations in the past 36 months and no more than two
(2) moving violations in the past 12 months.
e. No more than two (2) at fault accidents
f. No excessive speeding â 15 mph or more over the posted speed limit in the past three (3) years
g. No convictions or a pending charge of a crime involving a motor vehicle
h. No convictions or pending charges for operating any motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or a prohibited controlled substance or alcohol thereof within the last seven (7)
i. No convictions or pending charges of knowingly transporting a prohibited controlled substance
j. No record of violating an âout-of-serviceâ order within the last three (3) years while operating a motor vehicle
8. No convictions or pending felony charges within the last seven (7) years
9. No convictions or pending misdemeanor charges involving domestic assault, aggravated assault, sexual assault, embezzlement, burglary, or theft from a business within the last seven (7) years
10. No refusals to submit to a required drug/alcohol testing as required by DOT regulation
11. Can read, write and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand road signs/signals, respond to official inquiries and make entries on reports and records
12. Must have one valid Commercial driverâs license issued by the state of residence
13. Minimum one (1) year D.O.T. physical certification is required
